Comprehensive law enforcement patrol boats and comprehensive law enforcement work boats may experience common issues such as water leakage and discoloration of the rubber shell. So how should these be handled, and what are the causes of these issues?

The law enforcement patrol boat may experience common issues such as water leakage and discoloration of the gel coat. How should these be handled, and what are the causes?

1. Discoloration, bubbling, and black spots on the surface gel coat of the law enforcement boat: This can be caused by the instability of the curing agent ratio used during local repair work due to changes in weather at different times, or color differences in gel coats from different batches, which can lead to discoloration of the external gel coat (light and dark color differences, yellowing), especially on dark gel coats. If tiny bubbles and dust particles are not completely removed during layering, it can cause bubbling and black spots on the external gel coat later.

There are three methods to handle this:

a. Color difference: Sand down the surface gel coat layer, reapply the same model of gel coat, wet sand with #1000 or higher sandpaper, and then polish and wax to finish. During production and repair, the amount of curing agent added should be controlled according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

b. Bubbling: Chisel away the gel coat layer at the bubbling/black spot area, reapply the same model of gel coat, wet sand with #1000 or higher sandpaper, and then polish and wax to finish.

c. If there are deeper bubbles or black spots: chisel down to the bottom, then use chopped mat and layered resin to fill the recessed area, wait for curing to complete, and then reapply the same model of gel coat, wet sand with #1000 or higher sandpaper, and then polish and wax to finish.

2. Cracking at the junction of the hull and deck of the law enforcement patrol boat: This usually occurs due to accidental collisions during use at the junction of the hull and deck.

There are two methods to handle this:

a. For small local collisions: Remove the fender pressing strip, repair the fiberglass, and re-fix it using structural adhesive and bolts, then reinforce/repair to complete.

b. For larger area collisions: Please contact the dealer to arrange for professional repair.

3. Cracking of the surface gel coat at the junctions of the hull, deck, flybridge, and fiberglass components of the law enforcement patrol boat often occurs at stairs, Wet Bars, etc. The junction between individual fiberglass components and the main deck is prone to cracking at the surface gel coat due to the combination of two fiberglass components and the uneven angles caused by long-term use.

Method of handling: Remove the excessively thick surface gel coat layer, reinforce with mat and layered resin, wait for curing, and then reapply the same model of gel coat, wet sand with#1000 or higher sandpaper, and then polish and wax to finish.
