Recently, following the release of KION Group's 2024 financial report (KION Group is a subsidiary of Shandong Heavy Industry Group), CEO Rob Smith gave an exclusive interview to Xinhua News Agency, discussing KION's successful development in China, its views on China's high-quality development, and the application of artificial intelligence at KION.
The following is a Chinese translation of the Xinhua News Agency's English report.
FRANKFURT, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Rob Smith, CEO of KION Group, a leading provider of intralogistics solutions in Germany, said China's innovation and development are "admirable," and its high-quality development strategy will unlock even greater potential.
In an interview with Xinhua, Rob Smith said that as the world's largest material handling market, China has consistently been a strong "home market" for the group's growth.

For KION Group, China has become an increasingly important innovation center. Its rapid development allows the company to apply the latest R&D technologies to other global markets, Smith said.
Smith is confident about KION Group's future in China, stressing that the shift to quality-oriented growth means advanced technology, innovation, and sustainability—key elements of KION Group's strategy.
"Therefore, we see that China's commitment to high-quality development aligns perfectly with KION Group's growth plans," Smith said.
As Europe's largest industrial truck manufacturer, the world's second-largest forklift truck manufacturer, and a leading provider of warehouse automation, KION Group owns multiple forklift truck Brands, including Linde Material Handling and STILL.

Smith said that for more than 30 years, KION has continuously invested in China, establishing six factories nationwide and building a strong business presence.
“We have been expanding our production capacity because it’s a vibrant market,” he said. Meanwhile, Smith expressed particular excitement about the application of artificial intelligence in the Chinese market and its rapid expansion across the country.
Smith said KION has integrated AI into its warehouse and automation solutions and is actively promoting them in the Chinese market. “We see it as a great opportunity,” he said.
Smith cited the application of "digital twins"—a virtual representation of a physical object, system, or process that is continuously updated with real-time data, used for simulation, monitoring, and optimization. He added that this technology has been used to improve the operations of physical warehouses in China.
